US Begins Phased Closure of Consulate In Pakistan’s Peshawar

(MENAFN) The US State Department announced on Tuesday that it will begin a phased closure of its Consulate General in Peshawar, citing concerns over staff safety and the need to allocate resources more effectively.

According to an official statement, responsibilities related to Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province will be reassigned to the US Embassy in Islamabad.

"This decision reflects our commitment to the safety of our diplomatic personnel and efficient resource management.

"While our physical presence in Peshawar is changing, the Administration’s policy priorities in Pakistan remain steadfast," it said.

Despite the closure, US officials are expected to maintain engagement with local leaders and communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through outreach efforts.

The department also emphasized that diplomatic operations in Pakistan will continue through its missions in Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore, as part of ongoing efforts to maintain and strengthen relations between the two countries.
