Pakistan Welcomes US Hormuz Pause, Eyes Iran Peace Deal

(MENAFN) Pakistan has expressed optimism that recent developments could pave the way for a durable peace agreement between the United States and Iran after US President Donald Trump decided to temporarily halt the “Project Freedom” initiative in the Strait of Hormuz, according to reports.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan remains firmly supportive of all efforts aimed at promoting restraint and resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. In a statement shared on US social media platform X, he said the country hopes the current momentum will result in a long-term settlement that ensures “durable peace and stability for the region and beyond.”

He also described Trump’s response to appeals from Pakistan and other “brotherly” nations, including Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as “gracious,” adding that it could significantly contribute to easing tensions and encouraging reconciliation during a sensitive period, according to reports.

Trump announced on Tuesday that the US military would temporarily suspend Project Freedom, which was designed to secure freedom of navigation for commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

He added that the decision followed requests from Pakistan and other countries, coming after what he described as “tremendous military success” in the US campaign involving Iran, according to reports.
