Pakistan Calls for Calm, Continued Peace Efforts in Middle East Crisis
According to reports, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued a statement on Monday urging sides to give peace “a little more chance,” warning that the recent surge in violence underscores the fragility of ceasefire arrangements and the severe consequences of their breakdown.
He said the situation highlights “the dangers associated with a tenuous ceasefire and the unbearable consequences it may lead to,” as tensions continued to rise across the region.
The latest escalation began on Sunday when Israeli airstrikes hit Beirut despite an existing ceasefire, prompting Iran to launch missile attacks toward northern Israel. Israel subsequently carried out multiple rounds of airstrikes targeting Iranian positions.
According to reports, US President Donald Trump also called for an immediate halt to hostilities, urging both Israel and Iran to stop fighting “immediately” amid the tit-for-tat exchanges.
Sharif emphasized that diplomatic efforts were still ongoing and nearing what he described as a critical stage, adding that all parties should avoid actions that could derail progress and instead allow space for a peaceful resolution.
