Erdogan Says Mecca Defense Pact Signals Stronger Islamic Cooperation
Speaking during a youth-focused program in the northern Turkish province of Samsun, Erdogan describes the agreement, signed last month, as a development that is already producing “positive developments.”
“Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye came together and took a step. With this step, let us send a signal to the Islamic world. There are positive developments, and we will succeed in this,” he says.
Erdogan makes the remarks while responding to a question about his long-standing criticism of the current international system, particularly his argument that “the world is bigger than five,” referring to the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.
He again calls for changes to the global system and says Türkiye will continue working toward “a fairer world.”
